Salient Nationally Commended

Disaster scene management system Salient was once again put into practice as part of a national security training exercise for emergency services.  Called 'Southern Response' the South Australian mock terrorist attack on a bus at AAMI Stadium required the field triage, emergency transportation and A&E triage of victims amongst local hospitals.

Ambulance workers used hand-held PDA devices with built in RFID scanners.  As victims were assessed at the disaster scene, they were issued a unique RFID tag and their relevant identification and health status uploaded to a central server.

Emergency Services Central Command Centre was able to consolidate all of the collected patient data on the single screen.

During the Southern Rebound exercise, one hospital was issued with use of the Salient information regarding inbound casualty numbers and status.

The national level de-breifing by the Australian Health Protection Committee followed the state run events, made special 'High Level Commendation' to the South Australian exercise, and the use of RFID technology and tracking abilities.
