Dr Sepehr Shakib

Dr Sepehr Shakib, Director of Clinical Pharmacology at Royal Adelaide Hospital, needed a system that enabled him to access patient results from both his office and remotely, and communicate treatment decisions based on those results to district nurses working in the community. Hospital patients are regularly discharged home on anti-coagulants and require daily blood tests to ensure correct dosages are given. Every evening the dosage of anticoagulant given by nursing staff is adjusted to provide the optimal effect, based upon the results of the morning’s lab results.

Previously Dr Shakib needed to call separate laboratories for each of his patients to retrieve the daily results, which were not always available at the time of his call. He would then have to contact each district nurse in turn, to confirm the dose of medication for that evening.

The BOSSnet provided Dr Shakib with a single interface to review the lab history of all of his patients, from anywhere that he could access the internet. The evening dosage of anti-coagulants could then be adjusted online, and accessed by nursing staff using handheld PC’s and 2G or 3G wireless networks.
